I've had a request for subtitles from someone studying my Functional Analysis videos, and I am wondering whether some speech recognition software might save human volunteers from having to work their way through 27 hours of level 4 maths.
Your post suggests this may not be possible!
But sometimes this software can be "trained" or "corrected" so that it does a better job on a particular individual's speech.
Any recommendations?

appears to rank the Vista speech recognition as one of the best, which does not bode well!

Dear Joel,
Thanks for these posts. I don't know. I was so disappointed by the software's abilities that I did not spend more time on it. I expect it will improve on a given speaker, with time, but I just wanted to get the document done, and it was taking a lot more time to do it by dictation than by typing directly. I didn't mention the hassle of making corrections verbally, but this was considerable. Added to the time taken to edit the end result, it came to more than double the time needed to do the thing the old way.

I guess the software will work best when you write routine things about common, everyday topics. So the Catechism analysis of the Second Commandment was a bit rough on it. I assume that level 4 maths will knock it for six. The results will, no doubt, be amusing, if nothing else. Let me know how you get on.
